I'm Darla Donley,

I am from Crisfield, Maryland. I am newly retired from being in education for 39 years and doing event planning.  I am now in my new season of life, making a move with my husband and three Great Danes from Pennsylvania to Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay, Crisfield, Maryland.  A town with great people, talented artist, and amazing sunsets. Our son, his girlfriend, and our grandpup live in Boston, another great coastal city. Life on the water...an exciting new chapter to pen. To my surprise, Crisfield is full of treasures: sea glass, pottery, driftwood, and shells from the Chesapeake Bay (some may say trash...all a matter of perspective). A reminder of the power, grace, changeable qualities, and life the Bay invites. Endless possibilities...I love to create and I am inspired to bring repurpose to this churned, battered, and not so useless glass by creating sea glass art. I love piecing these canvases together into meaningful and fun art for all. Some pieces have their own names and seem to tell their own story - each one a different story. All treasures kissed by nature, sharp edges tamed to smooth, and colorful beauty designed and reborn into artful creations.  I love being a part of Crisfield’s art family, so many inspiring artists. The name “Blue Willow” is inspired by and in honor of our sister, Julie, who lost her battle with breast cancer. She gifted my two sisters and I with silver dipped willow leaf necklaces during her battle, to remind us that the willow leaf will always bend, but never break. Blue Willow also happens to be a type of sea glass. Perfect harmony!
